Amazing, inspirational trip – thank you to everyone who shared a story, music tip or technique insight while we were there. Thank you, also, for the overwhelming support for my “camp sketches.”
Still unpacking luggage and getting the pictures, audio and video backed up and sorted – hard to believe we accomplished so much in only a few days!
I hope everyone’s travels were safe and I look forward to meeting again, somewhere down the road!
Hey this message is for Amy. I had to leave the camp early last night because of the hurricane we’re expecting on the east coast. Since I was unable to pick up my flashdrive at checkout, is there any way I could have it mailed to me? Thanks!
Here you go….

You’re welcome. I’m glad I could help. We just got through with a huge jam conducted by Tony Levin. ALL campers, ALL playing at the same time. I’m surprised THAT didn’t cause an earthquake. Seriously, some of us did feel the earthquake earlier, but again, we’re all safe and having a great time.
I envy you all — especially my son Levon (yes, named after Levon Helm who lives up near there). He is an ambitious musician, playing stick and Bass pretty well at this point. He is fifteen, so coming up there by himself will be an adventure but after reading all of these great posts I am sure he will be in a great community! He loves music, that is for sure, and I am sure that meeting lots of you will have a big influence on him (as tony already has – we met him at a stickmen concert where we live in Pittsburgh) Kind and generous, I am sure that will be the spirit of the gathering…alas, I have to work, but I am confident he will have a great time – take care of him for me, folks, it will be a memorable week for a young musician!
thanks,
jeff ritter
Just verifying. The email I received tonight said that you’ve got drums and keys players covered. I had made arrangements to pick up a keyboard from Alto in Middletown tomorrow, but I can punt and save some money, if the above is true. I’m hoping someone will verify.
If I don’t need to go get an ax, then I have a fullsized vehicle and could meet that crew in Newburgh, and take one or two people up.
Let me know via this email or my phone number in the spreadsheet.
Erhan this is Kadir another Turkish guy. I use gk-3, it takes some time but I install mine so if you want we can put that on your stick at the camp.Take care
I am pumped! Two more days. I have concerns about traveling with my gear, camping for the first time since boy-scouts, getting eaten by bears, what the schedule will be like, etc. but I’m definitely expecting a fantastic experience. Can’t wait!
At the Austin airport.. had a little issue some local cows but we got that sorted and we’re on time. . with connection it’s 7 plus hrs of air (planes and ports) today. then the drive up to TLevs from Newark. . plan to get in by 10pm to have dinner at Tony’s. Sunday is full day starting at 8am, we will have short rehearsal (our first) but first i need to unpack and set up a sparkling new DW kit. . My bags are packed to the max (50lbs each) and i even filled A2 and Deb’s bags with more drummy stuff to share. safe crackers,
p@
Looking forward to the camp and the Vibe, looking to get some songwirting inspriation and a change of tack in approach to what music should be for me. Its been a heck of a grind pulling this trip off, ironically I travel for work! The energy is going to be massive..Looking forward to a soaking it up with Pat, Adrian and Tony. Im sure everyone is gonna bring something to this..
Im doing the bus thing from Manhattan( need to grave Sam Ash first) and hope to catch a ride back if anyone is going that way on the friday? Costs shared of course.
Amy wrote me that we should not get at the camp before Monday 3PM. Her words: “You may arrive at camp at 3pm on Monday. Full Moon is booked with an exclusive event before camp begins”
And at which time it ends on Friday? (even if I will want it to last forever…)
Count down to Monday – we’ll be there soon — Adrian’s already hit the road to Camp!
Like Pat, I’ve got equipment arriving daily (4 shipments expected today — including espresso!) and we’re fine tuning arrangements for Camp activites.
Safe travels to you all — contact Amy at the camp about any travel questions. See you soon, t.
Safe travels to you, Adrian and Pat as well. Thank you for all the effort you are putting in to make this happen for all of us. See you Monday morning!
New News! This just in:
A while ago I got an email from Vince De Franco, inventor and maker of the Mandala drum, that he was working on new version 2 (mk2.9 actually) .
he emailed last night that he has just assembled the first units and will be shipping the first one to me, since i leave tomorrow i asked him to send directly to the camp, . . .so its due to arrive monday and we can open the package together and see what its all about. in the meantime check here for more info : http://synesthesiacorp.com/
Hey folks! Any body else taking the bus at Port Authority, new york, at 9:30 AM?
That would be my original plan. However, the adirondack website doesn’t give the Big Indian Post Office as a destination, so I guess I don’t know which ticket to by/route to take.
If anybody else plans on taking that bus, let me know!
May everyone involved, have safe travels, and the BEST TIME EVER!!!! (I’m sure you will) I’ll be there in spirit. Just 2 or 3 payments more, and the NS WILL BE MINE. Knowing this helps ease the pain of what I’ll be missing.
I’m going to stop worrying about flying with my bass long enough to post a crazy idea I just had. Arts and crafts for the bassists: funk finger construction 101. That’s just a joke (I think). Getting excited….
Funny, I’ve just been experimenting with my funk fingers for a track on a recording. Not reconstructing them, but finding different soft material for the hitting ends… more thump, less bang. Some success (tennis raquet handle grip tape!) but still room for improvement. Sorry I don’t have a lot of pairs to show-and-tell at camp. t.l.
Oops, sorry, I didn’t mean to sound so imposing with my note above. Just trying to help with that ‘traveling with instrument’ anxiety, which I have too! Hopefully we all get to Full Moon with all instruments and players safely intact.
I am a musician / fan just like the rest of you. Though I am a professional videographer / editor, I am doing this project for passion not profit. Let’s face reality here: If anyone wants a free copy of the video, I’m sure you are all familiar with the modern technology to make that happen (and no one will be sending lawyers to Helsinki or Sao Paolo). What I will be asking for is a suggested donation as a sign of good will for the time and passion I will be putting into this project. The bulk of the time will be spent in post-production, which is time away from my wife and paying gigs (at least a month). Good will begets good will. For those that plan on contributing video, please email me at infinitecapture@gmail.com
My crew and I will be on-site most of the week video taping and creating a mini-documentary of camp events. The finished product will depend on what we capture. I encourage any campers with video equipment (a flip-cam will do) to video tape their own experiences. I especially encourage those traveling long distances to begin by taping their travel experiences. The video will be made available to campers for a small fee (TBD). If anyone has any comments or suggestions please feel free to contact me at infinitecapture@gmail.com.
Okay, I read my post and realized I left something out. For those who will be video taping their own experiences, I will be available all week at camp to download your footage, and hopefully include it in the final product.
i’m going to be bringing a HD videocamera with me to record all the sessions that i can. i’m sure there are going to be lots of other sessions going on at the same time that i won’t be able to get to. i could set up a FTP site so that we could all upload our Gigabyteage of video, photos, audio, etc. anyone else interested in sharing?
I’m pulling my equipment list together now. I’ll bring a Zoom H2, stacks of batteries and SD cards to capture sessions, jams and ambient “stuff.” I’ll also be bringing a portable PC-based ProTools setup with a personal goal of composing *something* while I’m out there. Debating on the video. It generates a ton of data, and there is an issue with being present vs. experiencing the whole thing at a distance behind a camera.
Invitation to campers and the Trio to complete a public (no login required) spreadsheet with some info about motivations, country and instrument of choice.
It’s all just for fun and with 68 campers, knowing some stuff in advance about each others could help “break the ice”.
Done. Anyone else taking Amtrak? I don’t drive, and need to choose a station. Town cars from Albany run $200; I’d love to split that. Anyone renting a car in Albany could coax me to cover most of the cost. If no better option, a bus from Albany runs ~$90 if bought early enough.
Any campers looking to split the cost of a rental car from/to Newark Airport? I can get an Intermediate size car for $325 including all taxes or share the cost of your rental if you’ve got a better rental deal. I arrive into EWR at 9am on Monday and fly out at 7:30pm on Friday.
I already have a SUV rented for the trip and one other passenger splitting the costs. You are welcome to join us. I arrive at 12:15 pm on Monday at Newark International. Let me know if you would like to join us.
hello Kurt, yes, please, i would like to share your ride. i’ll have a wheeled duffel bag (35″ long), a guitar or Stick case and a computer backpack. i’m arriving into EWR at 8:58AM from Chicago ORD on UA 0634. since i’m getting in first, i’ll try to meet up with Cedric at Baggage Claim before your flight arrives in. thanks again!
Hi Campers — haven’t given an update for a bit. We’ve been powow-ing about the curriculum, and have more interesting stuff in store for you.
Some of it:
Pat will offer talks on electronic drumming, ProTools & Abelton studio to stage, the Mystery of Thraak, Improv seminar with me, and more. Adrian: Adventures in alternate tunings, philosophy for a life in music, learn to play “Frame by Frame”, songwriting and production class, and he’ll join in on product demos of Fractal Audio and Pigtronix. I’ll be based in the cafe(!) with seminars on many aspects of bass, Crimson approach to playing, improv vs jamming, and separate daily Stick seminars. We’re trying to stagger the times of seminars so you can attend many each day. Emmett Chapman is sending 3 extra Sticks by for people to try (plus my 2) NS Basses have some very new stuff to send by, Ampeg is sending bass amps, the camp is providing lots of guitar amps, we will have a couple of special musicians (not Crimson members) joining us for an open rehearsal of Crimson dbl trio material, and maybe part of the concert in Bearsville Theater (to which campers are guests at soundcheck and backstage hang out). I will attempt to conduct a full-camp jam of everybody – band and all campers(!) There will be campfire story time, the food is great, and each camper will receive the Crimson Chronicles book and the coolest t-shirt ever for a music camp! That’s some of it! t.l.
3 weeks only!!!!!
3 weeks of very very hard work for me but…who cares…it will be a dream comes true and that’s important!!
I only hope to understand the most i can with my bad english!!
One question in my head: any chance to buy a stick?? i know me and i’m sure i’ll go crazy to have one….
Claudio, I will ask Emmett Chapman the prices of the Sticks he will send, in case anyone wishes to buy one. E posibile parleremo un po in Italiano si piace.
Thank you Tony…it’s from a long time ago i wish to have one stick, and try to learn how to play it…it will be my “trial by fire”
Do you think i’ll be able to learn by myself?? i’m not so good in tapping, but it’s too exciting try…..i only hope my wife will not leave me when she’ll see another instrument in our small house!!
Furbo! t.
Tony, I’m hoping that you guys go over your effects and processing chains in one of the workshops.
For bass all I have is a volume pedal, a strobostomp, and a big muff pi (sometimes). I have no clue about what to even look for in a compressor, much less how to tweak one. So I go straight into my amp and watch the little red light flicker. For Stick, I have nothing for the bass side. Worse, I’ve seen a picture of your Stick-Men pedalboard layout, and I have questions… (for instance, Beano Boost?).
On reflection, those kinds of things would be most valuable to me (maybe others?), so I figure I’d better speak up now. — John
Good points, John. Adrian will have a whole seminar on his effect use, and there will be demos and pedals to try from two companies. For me, the pedals are fairly simple, no need for a whole hour on it. We’ll cover it at one of the talks for sure, and/or you and I can chat about it. (esp. compressor — you NEED one on the Stick!)
By the way, more cool stuff has been planned for the Camp – I have to do an update here… maybe later. t.
Re recording tips, thanks to all of you for the response and ideas. Kevin, I don’t use PT, I’m a Logic guy, so no options there. As for signal chain, it’s nothing very special – mostly I thought what might be useful would be demonstrating how I approach playing on a song somebody sends me. I can do that by discussion, and include info on various d.i. boxes, and amp mixing. We’ll have at least one small session about that, and more as anybody wants. t.l.
Got a question for the bassists who are coming. I could lug my studio gear in, and have some classes on recording bass (something I do a lot!) Frankly it’s not worth the fuss unless a number of attendees are interested in that aspect, as opposed to others we could cover with just basses. Leave a ‘reply’ with your thoughts. t.l.
As for me I am always interested in how other bassists like to record or be recorded. But I have been recording for 15 years myself so a discussion/explanation of your techniques would be fine for me without hardware required.
Tony that would be great to learn how to record bass from A to Z! I agree with Kevin that you probably do not need to lu around all your recording gear though. I’ve been recording for 10 years but the bass is still not where I wanted… well sometimes I get lucky but it seems I can never reproduce what I do right more than once!
On another completely unrelated subject which you may be able to answer, I would like to send a box of CDs to the resort to give some away to everyone. The album will be released in a couple of weeks so I thought why not!
First is that cool for me to do or you would rather I don’t and second would you know address and who to send it to?!
Cedric, it’s fine to bring or ship in cd’s to give to the campers. There are currently 68. Ship it to Amy Carpenter at the camp address (which I’m hoping is on their website, linked above.) t.l.
One more thought on that Tony. I seem to recall you mentioning the Pro Tools is at least one of the ways you record, it’s what I mainly use. I don’t know if you have PT 9 yet (I do not) but I hear that it will work “stand alone” with no hardware.
If you do have that version you could have a session on a laptop setup the way you do without having to use the interfaces as part of your explanation of your total bass recording process.
Tony, a discussion about your signal chain in the recording studio would be immensely interesting especially if it is more complex than the usual direct-box and limiter set-up of many session bassists. if there are some notable things about how you dial in your tone on your studio gear then yes, please bring the equipment in to walk through your method for us. on the other hand, if you think you can just talk through the process (maybe with a diagram?) then save yourself the hauling hassle. i have to say though that if you typically use a rack full of gear in the studio, i would be all eyes and ears to hear you show and talk about how you use it!
Here I go again with another comment.
Possibly you could shoot a little video of what your signal path and techniques are through your gear and show us that. I suppose that does present the issue of how to show the video to a room full people.
I am still trying to swing it so I can register for this (obviously quite late), but I know I can probably only afford to bring my own camping equipment. I’m wondering if I’m bringing my gear with me, will there be accommodations so that I don’t have to leave my gear in a tent exposed to the elements? Also, curious if I get to come inside and use the facilities to get cleaned up and what-not.
Craig,
I remembered Amy addressing the camping bathroom question and looked for it. Scroll up from this post to #74 and Amy has a reply about that. The where to store gear while camping is not addressed there though. KA
Help! I’ve registered late and have tried to get a hold of Amy via email with no response. I’m coming all the way from “down under” in Australia and would like to be assured my spot is confirmed and settle my account etc – Sorry guys I’ll need to beg, borrow but not steal instruments to play (i play guitar and bass and I’m dying to try a stick, not many in Aus)
Hi all!!
The BIG DAY is coming fast and a lot of questions appear in my head:
1- How cold will be?? Which clothes are the best?
2- Someone can give a ride from Manhattan (near a metro station, you choose!!!) to FMR to an italian guy that travel alone??
3- How many people will smile for my very bad english??
Hey Claudio,
I’ll help if I can. How much gear are you carrying? and you gotta figure out exactly where you will be, You can use the Metro North Hudson line (track 34 out of Grand Central I think definitely check) to Beacon NY which is about 12 miles by road from me and I can haul you up from there. For clothes in the Catskills, Jeans, shorts, t shirts, light jacket, I’m not sure about swimming facilities at the camp but I know a spot just up the road, Google Map the Hudson Valley from NYC to Kingston and get an idea of where you are, I’m in Cornwall NY just below Newburgh. I’m at SJMeyer266@aol.com
Thanks Steve,
i’ve only a guitar with me (and a bag)…i’ll write to you when i’ll have the position of my room in Manhattan….i’ll get a place that’s ok for you, of course!!!
Let’s keep in touch, man!!
C.
Hi,
I’m coming from Istanbul and will stay in Manhattan for the night. Is there any chance I can join you on monday morning ?
I’ll have a mid-size backpack and a stick with me.
Erhan
Hey Tony
Again I’m profoundly “guitarded” and over equipped but here’s my Gear List since its only 2 exits up the 87 for me
Ibanez SD 400 Bass
Carvin Double Neck
toss up between the Epi SG or if I can get ahold of my old Strat for the week
Ibanez Performance 12String Acoustic
Amps Izz
Peavey Mark VI Head and the Gigalithic 2×15 cabinet
Peavey Chorus 212
Fender LTB 4channel PA
Couple of mikes and stomp boxes (just got a looper RC 3 Boss,
I’m camping so I’m obviously hoping I don’t have jam this all in my tent and oh yeah um, there is a 6.5 KW Generator in the back of my truck It wont be Woodstock but we can probly be heard from there.
I’m looking forward to exchanging Coffee with you! My Morning “Boiled grounds, strained direct to the cup SAE 30 Wt Powermud with Evaporated Milk and Sugar” for a more refined cup of Espresso?
Ha, Steve. That’s a lot of stuff. I’d say a small guitar would be worth bringing, because I don’t have many of them. And, re your coffee, I think I’d better stick with my espresso! t.l.
Hey Tony
yeah I’ll see what the bass sounds like thru the Chorus 212 as far as small amp I do have my nasty little Marshal Micro Belt Clip Beast. Been playing a bit looping the end bass bit from tubular bells. It was almost recognizable! Again as over equipped as I am I play more or less therapeutically and even so not as often as I’d like. CTS, PN and raging Bursitus, I’ve often told God fearing people to thank Him for having their lives and not mine, that’s not an unhappy thought tho as Adrian said “Have to be happy with what you have to be happy with” and I am very much so. As far as religion goes think back to your lyrics on Resonator, Adrian “Construction of Light, and the Aqualung album and that’s about my view. I like your perspective best from what I see, So very looking forward to meeting you and Adrians minds (take a walk thru the back of Ade’s mind?)
I’m arriving at Newark on Monday at 10:20am. I was going to take the bus but if you still have room in the car, I only have my bass with me and we can split the rental.
Probably cheaper than the bus and more relaxing than the bus!
Keep me posted. If not possible, no worries, bus it will be
You are the first to ask so YES you have a ride from Newark. Here is my flight information so if you could meet me at the arrival gate or at the baggage claim area for my flight that would be cool. Let me know which one you prefer.

Continental Airlines # 1696
Austin-Bergstrom Int’l (AUS) to Newark Liberty Int’l (EWR)
Departure (AUS): August 22, 7:30 AM CDT (morning)
Arrival (EWR): August 22, 12:16 PM EDT (afternoon)
Hei men…..is the car full???
I’ll arrive in NY august 20th and then i’m looking for a way to go to FMR….i’ll sleep near Central Park (57 west 84 street)….can i be one of yours???
Arriving by bus seems so hard…..
Hi Tony! I signed up back in early March. Perhaps you’ll offer an writing course at camp? What I should have posted was: Does anyone need a ride from/to Newark Liberty Int’l Airport???? I am renting a Jeep Cherokee. The car rental cost was +2X the airfare! Austin-Newark direct flight.
I noticed a couple more campers that may need a ride. Just FYI. I’ll let you answer them since you know the vehicle size, etc.
I’m still in of course and will have with me my bass case, and probably a couple of small bags for clothing, FX pedal, laptop, and things…. I’m thinking it’s a good idea to say what I have with me to make sure we have enough space in the vehicle.
I’m jolly to perception establish your fairly properly-suggested put up!I subscribe duck a few of your readers again consign eagerly peep courageous to your nearing updates
Psyched about the chance to be around such musical talent! Would you consider giving a couple of focussed sessions for cross-training / familiarization for guitar players to learn fundamentals of bass (with a touch of stick) and similarly one for percussion. And vice-versa of course, round robin-like so we don’t just wander into the middle of “regular” sessions.
Now this idea might be less applicable (or even interesting), but I’ve been thinking how all three of the perfect pair are apparently really nice guys… They might’ve been faced with not so nice people in all their musician life.
Perhaps there could be some talk about “Life in a Band”, with all the intricacies of working with a group of people, be it an ensemble or a rock combo, be it session-work or full-fledged band membership. there must be some human skills or values (other than musical) that the guys could bring us.
That’s just me thinking about how the human element influences the played notes! Most of the campers are probably musicians and there are countless bands which would benefit from such advice.
There’ll be plenty of talk, Luis, about that aspect and any aspects of rock that people want to know about. Among the 3 of us we have about a million years experience making music (well…) in a lot of genres, and are all happy to share, teach and learn. t.l.
Just lost my job so I can’t afford this unfortunately. Luckily I will get to see them when they come to hampered. I got to buy Adrian a beer last year when he came through ma hometown.
Jeesh, I just couldn’t stand those last two comments being the ones ending this list!
Nothing important to add now… would any bass players driving to the camp be interested in buying any of my old large bass amps? I’m thinking the big ones aren’t worth lugging to the camp otherwise — smaller combos will be more practical for us. But could be convinced to bring some if wanted. t.l.
So, Tony, I am guessing you are not a New Englender by birth since we would be concerned that naming something so blatantly may well bring about repetition…just a thought and hoping they don’t…do you have a price range in mind for these large bass amps?
Peace,
Tadd, some of that went over my head(!) but, I am from Boston, in fact. As for prices of the amps, I don’t know… but it’s looking like dragging them out of storage wouldn’t be worth it.
Tony, if you’re looking to sell stuff I’ll buy an old patch cord. It would be a hoot to say to my band “here’s an actual patch cord used by the actual Tony Levin! Just listen to the amazing riffs I can play now. And the tone: superb …”.
At the risk of turning this into a Crimson rummage sale, I think it would be safe to say that many of us would greet the opportunity to relieve you, Adrian and Pat of used parts, cables, straps, pics, funky fingers, etc. with giddy enthusiasm. I’ll bring my piggy bank.
(part 2) i will be setting up new drums in the main performance room, as my basic hybrid kit ( Roland Handsonic & spds, Korg wave drum, my Mac laptop with Motu interface and a few pads) and a nice set of Paiste cymbals ( a mix of signature and twenties series). . this kit will stay in the main room for our open rehearsal sesssion tuesday and weds and also some after dinner jams. – like the big jam we are planning to record wednesday night.
Then there’s the drum barn, a big space were we will set up two smaller DW kits/w paiste cymbals and also an assortment of my electronics – depending on feed back from you campers i may bring a few more handsonics so you campers can have chance to explore (maybe with headphones)—I am thinking to bring the TD10 brian ( and a few V drums) i used for The Construkction of Light record and tours so folks could check out those patches and play around a bit to taste Drums, again probably set this up in headphones unless we muster a group interested in delving into that specifically. . I’m thinking to bring a selection of drum books to share, or perhaps i’ll just make print out of specific pages.- i’m guessing there will be some jamming in the drum barn too
As i mentioned before, Vic Firth is nice enough to send up sticks and a bunch of practice pads so depending on interest and weather we may do some pad time outside or in the barn —
Our pals at L.P. have joined in and will be sending a small assortment of hand percussion ( cyclops tambourines, shakers, cow bells & blocks). . i will also be bring a few of my odd percussion toys.
New celebrity camper just signed in – - John Stannard , the man behind the Hamerax cymbals and hybrids that are popping up on stages and sessions all over the world will be joining us, besides his micro tonal guitar he says he’s bringing a few of his hybrids . . . If you havnt seen Hammerax check them out, but be warned you’ll want all of them. http://www.hammerax.com/
this leads me to suggest we do a break out class on alternative rhythmic devices.
I’ve read a few campers asking about bringing their own drum kits. . Please do!
Our drum barn looks huge, so lots of room for us all to show and tell.
Also saw campers wrote about desire to do some BaBooom- sure ! why not.
Another camper i met asked me about doing some drum circulation, lets try that too. . im all for finding ways we can all be involved together. . then perhaps we can insert these little motifs and new bits knowledge into the after dinner jams. .
I use Pro Tools and Abelton Live , both in the studio and on stage – and am prepared to offer an introductory class in that if enough campers are interested. . and my tech Adrian Benevides is even more advanced in Pro Tools, Abelton, Logic , Battery and loads more etc. Adrian was manager of Guitar Center, so he has a wealth of knowledge about gear, contemporary music making, and software and plug-ins (much more than me) for those who might want to go even deeper.
I would love to get a crash course on Ableton especially from you P@! Love what you do on stage with it!
I’ve been trying to incorporated on stage… just don’t know where to start!
I’ll have my laptop with lots of Abelton sessions so i can share and explain both how i use on stage and i use as a practice tool. . its very powerfull in fact we did the first tuner Cd ‘Totem’ in Abelton.
its almost 3 am here in russia and i’m heading for zzzzzzzzz’s
hello Pat, will you be bringing your Latronic Notron? i read that you used to use one and i’ve always been intrigued with it. i’d love to see how you use it (if you still do).
yes, please bring extra Handsonics (SPDs and other electronics) – it will spare me bringing along mine from L.A. though i may bring the new Mandala Drums if mine come in time. i’d love if you could share your Handsonics setups – it seems to me Roland sure didn’t arrange their programs for playability.
i’m definitely bringing my MacBook Pro with Pro Tools 9HD and Live 8. it would be really interesting if you could give us a lesson on how you record and mix your drum and hybrid tracks.
(been trying to post this for awhile) From Pat: Hello Campers!
As we get closer things are falling into place.
have the basic plan for gear, at least in drum world. I will have my main kit in the main performance space- if all goes according to plan this should be a brand new DW kit ! – arriving a few days before the camp- it will feature a 22″ x 15″ kick (thats right my kick goes to fifteen, why? . . .why not?), and features DW new SSC shell configurations shells with VLT and VLX grain combinations (if you don’t know about this Vgrain stuff is ( heck i didn’t a few weeks ago) there is a video of the crazy stuff their doing with wood that you can check out over on DW site
I’ll fly in on the weekend and spend a day preparing at Tonys, because even we cant get access to the camp site till monday.
So monday i’ll be getting right into unpacking and setting up these new DW’s and assorted rental gear. . the first campers to arrive can join in for the first lesson ‘how to unpack and build a drum kit’, or next door in Tonys cafe how to assemble an espresso machine’, sound check and all that . . We’ll be assisted by a fine little road team we have assembled to bring up to the camp – Adrian Benevides at my beck and call, long time Crimson and Zappa road dog John Sinks is on board to take care of Belew, and from nearby Woodstock, production manager and FOH mixer for the stars Robert Frazza will be on Tony’s team. . of course we really all are on the same team when it comes to shlepping (right?) and they are all sure to overlap since they are all fine audio engineers, mixers, techs, etc. between them they may have almost as many road stories as Tony.
Good points, Cedric. We’re going to stagger our talks somewhat, for exactly that reason – so people can catch more than one. But also looking at many of them each day, so some will have to overlap. And as for the biz, there’ll be some on that, including John Collinge, of Progression Magazine, coming in to speak.
Now that I’m set for my trip, here are a few questions for what we will be doing during this amazing week in August.
I want to make sure we’ll have enough time to spend time with all 3 musicians. As a bass player, I’d love to spend time with Tlev but I also definitely would like to probe P@’s brain. Drummers are my favorite beats in a band !
I also do want to spend time with Adrian as I play guitar and would love to understand what he does and how he writes too. And talk about Zappa!
Finally I do hope there will be talks about the “business”. I started an independent label about 2 years ago now (check the link if interested) and have a ton of questions on how to make it work. I am far from breaking even but I do want to make that (and being a musician) my full time gig.
I think that’s about it for my wish list
I have the basic plan for gear, at least in drum world. I will have my main kit in the main performance space- if all goes according to plan this should be a brand new DW kit ! – arriving a few days before the camp- it will feature a 22″ x 15″ kick (thats right my kick goes to fifteen, why? . . .why not?), and features DW new SSC shell configurations shells with VLT and VLX grain combinations (if you don’t know about this Vgrain stuff is ( heck i didn’t a few weeks ago) check this video and see the some of the crazy stuff their doing with wood that you can check out over on DW site: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJ6AvR6E8-s

i will be setting up new drums in the main performance room, as my basic hybrid kit ( Roland Handsonic & spds, Korg wave drum, my Mac laptop with Motu interface and a few pads) and a nice set of Paiste cymbals ( a mix of signature and twenties series). . this kit will stay in the main room for our open rehearsal sesssion tuesday and weds and also some after dinner jams.

From Tony: David, if it’s do-able, bring your gear for sure. The only guitar gear that’ll be there is what I haul over from my gear – that’ll be a number of guitar amps, but no pedals, fx, or pre-amps. We will have mic and p.a. set up in each of the rooms. t.l.
Just wanted to relay to the double trio project, you have avid fans like myself in Tampa Bay, FL. We’d be there automatically if you could do us a show here. plz plz plz
And a heartfelt thank you to p@, Ade, and Tony for putting this camp together. It is quite exciting and I feel very grateful for this rare opportunity. I’m sure it will be a talented, intelligent and interesting crowd.
Any chance of seeing what interest there is for having some campers perhaps switching the roles and performing for the Krimz? One song, 3 minutes and done type of deal. Nothing that would take up too much time, certainly. I for one, would be thrilled to perform in front of the Three Wise Men.
My thinking, Max, is that there will be nightly jams (in the Cafe) where we can mix it up, and those who want to play can get to – I’ll be joining in some, but also letting others have a go and listening. (I believe these can go on as late as anyone wants — but I know I will not be one of the all nighters!)
Well it turns out I can’t come- I am only 14 and my parents are worried about me “camping with a bunch of adult men”. I hope you make this an annual thing.
That’s a real shame man, because I’m sure there will be a lot of teenagers going as well. I’m 17 and definitely going, and I think I heard of a 15 year old going, and I know a million people around our age who like KC.
I just returned from Dweezilla. The Full Moon is an ideal place for a music retreat. Although all students are called “campers” most of them are in private or shared rooms. Real tent camping is available at a lower price, but it’s not mandatory. There were a couple youngins at Dweezilla. One had his family with (and was an amazing guitarist) the other was a multi-instrument kid who was pretty good at several things…and fearless. I didn’t see him with his parents. Don’t know if it’s mandatory to have an adult in tow. Suggest calling and finding out about that.
The food was healthy and great and I have a new respect for the Zappas and the ZPZ band…They are ace.
Gee Al, and you’re the theremin guy! Wouldn’t it help if your parents talked to Amy on the phone? Maybe some reassurance that this is an all-age camp would change their mind…
Good luck!
We are hoping it’ll be annual, Al. And, after August you can contact some of the older teens who come, and find out what it was like. I kind of agree with your folks that at 14, with no friends or or family, it could be grim for you. We’ll hope to meet you in the future.
I’ve been calling the Resort for the last couple days to make my final payment, but everytime I call it sends me to voicemail. Is there any other way to pay? (I already tried e-mailing Amy Carpenter) Thanks.
The resort has been having computer problem but they did call me back on Thursday. I had called Amy in the meantime and she took the payment over the phone.
Hello everyone! I’m planing to go to one of this Return to Forever/Zappa plays Zappa concerts before the camp:
Aug 19, Detroit,MI;
Aug 20, Hammond, IN;
Aug 21, Indianapolis,IN.
If anybody is interested with this and/or driving from this locations and willing to carpool or flight together, would you let me know?
Cheers
Laucha
I may well be wrong and I am mostly a bass player anyway. I have seen many postings here regarding new standard tuning. As I understood it nst is a Fripp thing that Mr. Belew has only experimented with and not a regular thing for him. But as I said before I certainly don’t know. The only reason I am posting this is because it looked like some people might be expecting master classes in nst and that might not be the case. Just a rambling thought from me.
Theramin! Do you have any idea how often I could not think of that word, Popularized in many original Warner Bros Cartoons. I had suggested a cover tune to you once and for an open jam at one point at least a Crimson styled Powerhouse by Raymond Scott simply must happen!
For Tony! Hey Tony, I’m local so if you need any help let me know, I’m in Newburgh, You may remember me from a handshake Keegans when you played with CG3 and the “worlds most treacherous chord conversation Stravinskyi rites of spring You won! I am registered, Got hauling and roadying exp, got a Ranger P’up truck, fingers even work sometimes. I am casting aside all trepidation doing this, some guys call themselves “run of the mill” guitarists but I’d be fired by the mill! I’ve been playing for years but not at all lately, and never got good at it, but I’m a CrimFan (I’ve been Crim’pd?) I’ll be bringing my Ibanez SD400, Carvin Double Neck, and hopefully I can get ahold of my ex Fender Strat or my Epiphone SG. I can bring my Ancient Peaveys MarkVI w/twin 15 Cab (hugeness) Chorus 212, and the old DECADE breadbox 12 volt amp and a mess of boss pedals, I would like to speak to you personally if you would about some other concerns with the camp. again same home area code 656-0233.
Hi Steve. Don’t worry about the playing, we’ll all have fun. Thanks for the offer of hauling help, but I’ll get sorted out with our crew. (I’m assembling my amps now… it’s amazing how many I have.) As for calling you, I’m not a phone guy, sorry. You can send a message to my FB account. t.l.
Couple questions:
-anyone driving from Austin or something like to NY? I’m in Houston and it might be fun to drive. Else I’ll fly.
-which brings my second question: I’m bringing my bass… and should I put the case in the belly of the plane or take it with me on board? Can I even do that? Anyone knows how much the airline will charge me?
Okay I just read in one of the posts that the camp starts at 15:00 on Monday and ends around 11:00 on Friday… so I’ll just take a plane on Monday and back Friday. Short but hey the drive is over a day
And I just thought about the crap load of mileage I have so that resolves that problem.
Any answers for how to get the bass on the plane?! And how much? Thanks!
Oh and how do you get from the Albany airport (cheaper than going through NYC!) to Full Moon Resort?
From Tony: Cedric, I’d advise checking with the airline about the bass. I travel a lot (well, I travel a huge amount!) and generally airlines charge extra for everything – lots extra. And rules change about carry-ons all the time. Safest is to call them, try to get something definite. (even then, they’ve been known to change policies at the ticket counter!) Good luck, t.l.
Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, but I decided to fly. (Plan on visiting some old friends before and after the camp, since I used to live up that way.)
Directions to Full Moon are on their website. Basically, NY Thruway South until you hit Kingston.
In my own case, I’m flying into Newark, NJ. It’s about 35 miles further away, than Albany. Larger Airport, probably a little more flexible flights get cancelled, etc…
From Tony: (Really, to all of you who are choosing airports to fly into.) Albany is 1 hour from Kingston – hence about 1:40 drive from the camp. Newburgh (Stewart) is the same. Newark, much bigger and easier to fly into, is anywhere from 1:40 to 2:00 from Kingston – therefore 2 hours to 2 1/2 drive from Full Moon. The NYC airports are about that distance too, but longer trip because of NY traffic. I’d advise contacting Amy with any questions about it. I also have a guy who does airport runs, I can connect any of you with. t.l.
I’m registered! Spoke to Amy and will Hammer out fiscal detailetry Monday. I’m local (Newburgh area) so if organizers need a guy with a pick up truck (no cap got tarp) in a pinch I’m willing able and will work for beer and gas money I’m ecstatic! and looking forward to it!!!
A couple of questions… the easy one — are we all going to the gig Thursday night at Bearsville theatre? I can’t imagine we wouldn’t be. Maybe only the campers who have been very good and well behaved get to go
The harder one — which I hate to ask… will any audio or video recording be permitted at camp? Dweezil allowed such activities last year, with appropriate forms signed, with some restrictions. I think (hope) all of us here are fine either way you guys decide.
All well behaved campers will attend the Bearsville gig on Thursday We’ve got a couple of school buses to transport and each camper will be on the guest list.
Audio and video are permitted as long as you sign an agreement that the recordings are for personal use only and will not be sold, marketed, or used commercially in any way. I will have the form available at check in. Also, something to think about is sharing any recordings with the guys so they can have them as well.
Really considering this, admittedly my playing is nowhere near the caliber of most people but I do know I can learn things and would have realistic goals playing with Tony and Adrian. I’d want to master New standard tuning, and a few tunes or parts therefrom off The Power To Believe and Utopia. I only play to my cats anymore.
Steve, I’ve tuned one of my guitars in NST. I was thinking about bringing it along with the standard one to the camp, I’m not that used to it but it’s been fun to fool around with.
If you were looking for a guitar-partner for those double-guitar parts in the power to believe album, we could try something out at the camp! It’d be a relief not to be the only mildly-sane person to attempt that =)
I forewarn of my abilities, I can play but I’m not great by any stretch. I’m looking to learn and do my best and have fun meeting the minds behind King Crimson I’m looking forward to playing but honestly I haven’t played seriously in years.
Luis! you’re definitely in? I’m looking forward to playing and meeting you, It seems there’s the obvious material and I have a few ideas for the evening jams, Raymond Scott Powerhouse, Tubular Bells excerpts etc. I need to decide what to bring equipment wise I’m admittedly an overequipped “Guitarded Person” Let me know how you’re getting here, I live about 10 miles from the Airport in Newburgh NY and it wouldn’t be a problem to pick you up at any airport in the NY area (I’m a professional driver)
Steve, I’m all set to go! Those were some good ideas you’ve mentioned =) I guess I’m bringing the NST guitar alone! I would only bring along a distortion/overdrive pedal of some sort, but I’ve been using the amp’s distortion for a while…
I’ll be in new york with my mother and sister (who shan’t attend the camp) since saturday, lets talk via email (mine’s luis.misiara@gmail.com ) as for this excellent carpooling idea!
I’ve always wanted to try the Stick since I saw Tony in the cheesy Elephant Talk video (yeah, I’m that old…)
What about, on day 2 or 3, once Stickists are comfortable with the Master, to setup an introduction session where stickist all act as teachers for those willing to cross unknown territories?
That’s one thing I’m looking forward: mutual help and knowledge sharing. And it doesn’t need to always come from our beloved FoCK Trio…
BTW, FoCK stands for the impromptu “Friends of Crimson King” held in Québec City in 2008 before Primus’ show.
I’m liking this idea, Patrick. I will have my two Sticks there, and Stick Enterprises will send in a couple more, with different setup options, for people to try – we can have a daily Stick players hour, open to current players and interested others. t.l.
I’m a bit ashamed to admit but I have owned a stick for 25 years and I need a beginner lesson. I have on rare occasion used it in a band situation or on a recording session. But I don’t really know what I am doing on it and I would love some pointers. I am however only bringing a bass because I don’t have a flight case for my stick.
From Tony: Don’t worry, Kevin, we ALL need beginner Stick lessons! There’s so much that can be done on it, there is always more to learn. Too bad you can’t bring yours – after a few years not playing it, it probably needs adjustment (not that I’m great at that.) But anyway, we’ll have some Sticks on hand. t.l.
Tony,
I do have the standard vInyl covered plywood case. Have you ever traveled via air with your stick in that type of case? I have never needed to buy the molded case and I have never flown with my stick so I don’t have any experience in that area.
I won’t be able to attend the camp, but got my tickets for the Bearsville concert. My wife and I will be driving from Hartford and plan to stay over in Woodstock area that night. Any hotel suggestions in the area that would also take Stanley, our pug?
Camping is a great option at Full Moon. There are over 100 acres to chose from. A camper restroom with shower, electricity, etc. is available. There are also six other public restrooms available throughout the facility. In addition, the lobby and library are open 24 hours a day and are equipped with wi-fi, computer, TV, and phone.
I hope this helps. Again, apologies for the delay. Hope to see you in August!
Thanks for the responses. I will call you (Amy) tomorrow to get registered. My son Nathan and I are very excited about this event. This is my college graduation present to him.
Guys,
i’ll travel from Italy alone…i’ll be in NYC saturday, august 20…someone want to spend a day walking together around the big apple and then travel to the Full Moon Resort by bus??
NYC is awesome, but with some “friend in crimson” is better!!!!
p.s.: you guys will bring ELECTRIC guitar (in ase, ill choose an Ibanez Steve Vai) or ACUSTIC guitar? i can’t bring both!
To everyone who attends this incredible event, have a great time.I wish I could go,but I’m still in the process of paying off my NS. Tony,I hope that this can become,if not an annual event, maybe a bi-annual event. I only hope that it’s still going, when I finally summon enough courage to attend. I’ll be there in spirit, until then.
Good luck with the NS, Scott – I’m sure you’ll find it well worth it. I’ve had great times playing it in various situations – CGT, Holdsworth improv group, Crimson, and Peter Gabriel loves the sound. Anyway, maybe see you at next years camp. t.l.
Tony, thanks for the reply.I have to say, that the generosity shown from the 3 of you,by holding this camp, has given me back, some faith in humanity.I’m not even going to be there this year, but that you guys are putting yourselves out there, speaks volumes about you as artists and as human beings. On another note,(Long winded??? Why,yes I am.) I know there will be a million topics covered, and you guys may already have this down. But one of the many things, that may be of interest to the campers,is how the 3 of you, take care of your hands. What do you do to warm up,before a gig,and then relax the muscles afterwards??? Too many musicians, destroy their hands, from improper warm up/playing techniques. That 6 hands have survived, years of intense playing, proves your methods are gold. Sorry this was soooo lengthy.
Quick question. I have not been able to get hold of anyone at the Resort so I appeal to the masses: the camp runs Mon to Fri. What nights are the paid-for accomodation? In other words, if I’m traveling from Toronto with a van full of musicians and gear, I’m certainly coming down on the Sunday, not starting at 02:00 on Monday morning. But I cannot find info to confirm that we’re actually booked at the Resort for the Sunday night. Or the final Friday night for that matter. Who wants to have a final camp day deflated by a long final drive? I’d rather stay somewhere the Friday night. Is this included?
I have had the same problem with communication with Full Moon. I have emailed and left phone messages and never had any response. My registration says Starts Monday August 22nd at 3:00 pm thru Friday August 26th at 11:00 am. I want to be able to contact them by phone for my final payment because they send ALL confirmation info including full credit card info back through standard email. Email is not very secure so I don’t want another email confirmation with all of that content. I guess you will need to get a room somewhere for Sunday night. I in the past inquired about the cost of a room the Sunday before the camp starts but that was never responded to either. Good luck.
There are no rooms the day before the official event.
From an exchange with Amy in February: “Full Moon is booked with an exclusive event before camp begins so it would be necessary for you to make reservations elsewhere. The Alpine Inn is located just a mile and a half from Full Moon and typically has availability. To make a reservation for August 21, you can call The Alpine Inn directly at 845-254-5026. You can also email them at alpine@catskill.net”
What I will do myself is to get something in Albany (about 2 hours from FullMoon) using Hotwire service.
Hi Patrick. You may want to consider Kingston, NY for hotel – it’s about 45 min. from the Full Moon campsite (I know, cause it’s where I live, and where Pat, Adrian and I will be driving in from on the Monday) I think you’ll find better deals on hotel in Albany area, which is an hour N, but do check out the Holiday Inn Kingston first. t.l.
Amy is on vacation this week. Janet from the front desk has confirmed that accommodations are Monday night to Thursday night. Furthermore, extending our stay at the Resort is not an option given all of the other functions they have at that time.
So we used some frequent flyer miles to book accommodations for the Sunday and Friday nights in Oneonta aboot 1.5 hours away.
Problem solved. Well except that now we will have to unload the instruments out of the van 2 more times. Maybe Tony or Pat want to come along and help.
Actually, Greg, I’ll have a ton of stuff to unload myself, as we can only load in on the Monday — but we WILL have some crew there to help. (I’m gonna try to bring every guitar amp and bass amp I have, so there can be enough for people to practice with… some are old Crimson road gear from the 80′s – we’ll then see if they still work!) t.l.
Dear Mr. Adrian or Tony Levin,
What about iPad/iPod amps ? Coming from Turkey and I’ll be bringing 2 iPads, 1 iPod and 1 iPhone and Apple has not invented any amps for us yet !
(From Tony) Good point, Art, but this year we’re going it on our own – will see what seems best for next year. One exception – I’m trying to bring in my friend John Collinge, editor of Progression Magazine, to give a small talk on marketing your music for reviews to music magazines, and formatting ads. Could be helpful (to me too!) t.l.
Funny,
A friend of mine that studies “Guitar Craft” with whom I assume you are referring looked at the “Potential Schedule” day tab for this camp. He tells me that this camp is the complete opposite of a “Guitar Craft” week. Three of a Perfect Pair sure looks like it is going to be great fun!! But it would be very cool if the unnamed one came in the future.
I’m sooo psyched for this! Just got some money that I thought I lost and I couldn’t find any better way to spend it than hanging out with King Crimson! Can’t wait to lay some tasty jams with you guys!!! I’m just bringing my bass, I figured you guys are going to have amps (or should I bring my amp too? Please let me know!)
I’ll be bringing most of my amps over, Chris, and Ampeg might send over a few more bass amps, so we should be fine. Good idea to bring the bass though. t.l.
Hey Tony, Steve of “Stravinsky and the worlds most treacherous chord discussion , we met and shook hands at Keegans, Question? Should I do I need to bring my amps? mine are ok operational but just older than dirt Peavey Mark VI and a Chorus 212, That and Is there a limit to how many is too many Guitars? I’m bringing my Carvin Double Neck, My Ibanez SD400 Bass, The Epiphone SG, and my Ibanez 12String acoustic at very least. I’ve noodled around with Crim bits and other bits, My goals are 1. A working knowledge of NST, 2. Frame by Frame, Utopia, Silhouette, Toapp. and as a Current Asset Recovery and Transport Operator (tow truck driver basically) Dig Me has been a recurrent theme for me I’m also very much looking forward to finally meeting Adrian as I Identify more with his lyrics than any other lyricist ever! EVER! And again I’m local live near newburgh and I’m willing to help anyone in anyway I got a Ford Ranger
I’m 22 and I’ll be bringing my bass and stick (not very good at either, but I was born on Peter Gabriel and raised on King Crimson, so there’s no way I’m missing this!)
Always love Tony’s music and Adrians music Unfortunately my hands are shot from CTS and several various nerve and tendon issues but if you need a “Creepy Camp Bus Driver”
Great!!! I live in Mexico, but I’m trying to triangle my trip with a Boulder, Co stop. According to Google Maps it’s a 1 day and 5 hours trip (Denver-NY). I guess it would be cool to make 2 days with one stop in Chicago. Lets stay in touch for further planning. Nice to hear from you!
I would be all over recording an enormous song with a bunch of musicians. It would just be a pain to split all of the parts evenly-ish, and it might end up being 2 hours long, but hey, that would still be awesome. We should definately do that.
One thing I thought about was having the interested campers (hopefully they are many) and the guys in the band recording a song together! It could evolve from a jam, and even if there are around 60 campers, there could be some splitting of parts, some people would do chorus vocals, it’d be overdub-a-mania!
OK, that sounds quite complicated. But if anyone can extract a more concrete idea out of that… It’s more like taking what we learn in the camp and materializing into something audible that we all could later download or take home! Like a knitted scarf, if you will
(From Tony) Hi campers(!!!) I was just over visiting the Full Moon Resort, and I was really pleased with the setup. We now have a better sense what we can do there – there are lots of different areas, and opportunities. After mornings with all three of us in the main performance hall, we’ll split off to cool spaces — (I claimed the cafe, so I can have my espresso machine going!) Pat will use the big barn. Both will have extra amps and drums set up, giving the option of some people joining us to play. And at night, the cafe stage will be for late nite jamming by campers. (We may also have more organized jamming in the performance hall.) Another room is gonna hold all the amps I can bring.. so practicing, though not alone, will be an option for bass and guitar. And a cool room for just listening to recordings … we’re thinking of loading an iPod with “Adrian’s Faves”, “Tony’s Faves”… etc… for those who want to plug into what we listen to. We may set up ProTools, if there is enough interest. And, depending on how many Stick players, I may claim that listening room for daily Stick Sessions, for mutual learning. Gonna be very cool – I’m getting excited already! t.l.
I’m just looking over my (many) amps, thinking which to bring, to set up as practice (and jam) amps. I think Ampeg will be sending some by also. And, yes, there’ll be some extra Sticks, and basses. t.l.
Laucha, de donde sos? Aún no lo tengo absolutamente decidido, pero te parece ver si combinamos para viajar juntos?
Para comunicarte: huguz@aim.com.
Abrazo!.
Registered yesterday, am beside myself with excitement! I’m bringing a bass, a variax, and a stick (which I can barely play, been sitting in a corner for a while, time to pick it up!). Anyway, I live more or less locally and have about 4 extra guitars I can bring if there’s a need…
I don’t think we need extra guitars, John … probably anyone who wants to practice guitar will be bringing one. Let’s get you going on the Stick, though! t.l.
As the daughter of two musicians, I am self-taught and do not read music, though I have been told I have an excellent ear and sense of rhythm. Since I am primarily a vocalist and songwriter, will there be an opportunity to address these areas, as well as instrumental playing? Does my inability to read music pose much of an issue?
Hi Cori. Reading music won’t be an element at all (heck, not all of the guys in the band read that well!) In fact, it’s not a strictly teaching affair — we’ll cover lots of things, but general music, fun, and whatever people want to focus on, will be the trend. I’m hoping Adrian will give a seminar (or two) on songwriting … I’LL be going to that one! And there will be jamming too, if you care to sing some blues. t.l.
I wonder how many bass players that are attending will bring an OLP Tony Levin signature bass? Tony, if I bring mine will you please sign it so I can have a Tony Levin signature Tony Levin signature bass? I am looking very forward to this camp!!
I’ve registered and paid the 500$ deposit – how does it work with the rest of the payment? Is there a way to complete it through the internet? Or I necesseraly need to call the Full Moon resort?
Marco, are you from Italy??
If you do, send me an e-mail (geomscortichini @ gmail.com) and we can talk about the camp…i’m registered and we can also travel together!!
Dajeeeee!!!
ge
Sigh, why does this camp have to start the same day school does? It means we can’t come as a family and my husband would miss all the parent events at the schools. Any chance there will be another camp? Austin is just a 3 hour drive…
Booking done!!!
In your opinion, do you think it’s better if i’ll bring acoustic guitar or electric???
I can’t bring both
And i hope you’ll have patience with my bad english
There is wi-fi throughout the facility. It works better in some places than other but it’s always available in the lobby which is open 24/7. There is a guest computer as well. Hope this helps!
Camp is open to people of all ages (and skill levels). So far there is a nice variation in age. Let me know if you have any questions! Amy@fullmoonresort.com
I’ve just put up Adrian’s note from the band (above in ‘recent posts’) My bad that it took me ages to get it up — touring Europe would be my best excuse, but the truth is I’m a bit out of my element posting blogs. More soon from all of us (especially if it doesn’t go thru me!) t.l.
I currently play a double Roland Kit and would love some new Electronic Insights, of course being around Mr.Levin and the “Twang Bar King” wouldbe awesome as well. We’ll see how Uncle Sam treats me.
I think I’m going to go… the more I look at it, the more I like it (wink wink… sorry watching the indiscipline video on P@’s site!!)
I play guitar, bass and Stick… which instrument should I bring?! I can’t bring all 3! Maybe bass since it seems some Sticks will be there… and it’s my main speaking tongue
Cedric, I’d bring the bass. As you said, I’ll have some Sticks handy for you to practice on (may find the different tuning interesting!) I’ll have some of my basses too… I’m not fussy about them being practiced on either, but my action is way high – might not be everyone’s taste. t.l.
Hey Adrian, Please look us up when you are in the area. I am sure Willie would love to see you. Did you know we are now living in Saugerties? Willie has been getting back into music, yeah!
My first savings are going into this trip, couldn’t be a much better way to spend a week in august!
Perhaps some of my brazillian “sabor” will be appreciated (although I can’t play brazillian rhythms on the guitar even at gunpoint).
What a fantastic opportunity! Tomorrow I’m attending a Stick Men concert in São Paulo, hopefully there’ll be some time for a tiny greeting with 2/3s of the pair =)
I was thinking about funky fingers as well, that would be a nice.treat.
Hey Luis, I’m from Argentina and I’m going to Sao Paulo for the U2 concerts on 9 & 10 April, are you going to those concerts? Maybe we can meet and hang a bit. See you.
Laucha
Hi Laucha! I’m not attending the U2 concerts, but if you’re still around after that we could say hi. Anyway, we can keep in touch through email (mine is batinthebelfry@gmail.com) =)
Hey, if there are enough people interested in doing some barbershop, we’ll do it. (Maybe sing a ‘good morning, time to get up’ song each morning to the campers!)
t.l.
p.s. I’ll bring my funk fingers for sure — not a lot of extra pairs left, but I’ll hunt for them.
I’m bringing the whole family. Both boys play keyboards and I’m bringing my 10 string Warr guitar that Mark is shipping to me in 3 days. My wife is coming too, but she would prefer to walk in the woods during the day and hang with us at night.
OK my 10 string 5×5 Warr guitar got here by FedEx on Thursday. Played a sightreading gig last night with inverted 4ths for the first time. A little rough in a few places.
Would anyone be interested in me bringing my 8 string Warr to try out? Low B up in 4ths 8 strings to Bb.
Hey Just checked out that vid Very Nice! I’m going to the camp and really like what you’re doing on the Warr. Admittedly I’m less than a part time noodling guitarist if not truly “guitarded”! I do have a personal noodle with Canon in D which was severely bastardized by Blues Traveler that I do a hammering technique with,
Well I’m bringing my hybrid drum kit. The triggers are V-Drums but they can’t really do what I want them to do. P@: your hybrid kit had/has a Mandala pad in it. Will you be bringing that particular piece of hardware? I’d love to check one out…
Although I don’t play guitar, I’m going to bring one and see if I can get a lesson from Adrian. Then I can always say my first teacher on guitar was Adrian Belew.
I’ll bring my karaoka machine, if anyone is interested. That is, if I am able to come. We can sing along to King Crimson, The Doors, and anything else on my iPod or anyone else’s.
wish we could go to the shows as we did in california and chicago in the mid 80′s. I’d like my son to know. and no.I didn’t say that before, except to God and myself.
August in the Catskills with 3 world class musicians and cabins of comarades – sounds surreal. I would love to bring my Stick and Bass. Got to check my calendar. Tony – Gap says “Hi.”
Cartoons are from our good buddy Denis Rodier. check him out here http://www.rodierstudio.com/
Denis has helped me with several projects like MasticA and BPM&M and also done projects for Ade and Tony . . . and he is a rockin E’Drummer and chances are he will be at the camp.
Just leaving to join Tony in South America, once i get down there Tony will teach me how to post ‘updates from the band’. ciao,p@
I am so looking forward to this! I am a run of the mill guitarist, but so happy to sit at the feet of the gods and strum along as best I can. I will be camping out, so I am not sure about what gear to bring, but I am pretty sure the looper will be in the mix. I can’t wait to touch base with drummers and bassists and stickists along the way! Think I’ll bring some hand drums, too. Looking forward to meeting you all…Peace…
Tadd
I’m so happy!!! I can’t wait to be there. I’m confident that it will be an enlightening experience for all of us.
I play some drums and I’m eager to jam, learn and have a great time.
Btw, does anybody want me to bring something special from Argentina? Let me know.
See you there.
Laucha.
I know an incredibly talented, mature, seasoned musician who may want to attend and participate. Does it matter that he will have turned 15 a month before camp starts? One or both of his parents would join him, about which he lacks grounds to complain since they’ve been his (unpaid) roadies for almost 10 years! Details on instruments played, experience, original compositions, etc. available upon request. One absolute – he is NOT looking for fame at this age, nor would we – I mean, his roadies – allow it!
Hi Amy, your son is more than welcome! All ages and skill levels are warmly invited to attend. We actually have a few teenagers already signed up. I would be happy to arrange for you and your husband to attend as well (roadies welcome too!). Let me know if you have any questions (amy@fullmoonresort.com). Hope to see you all in August!
I will be flying in Sat Aug 21. If anyone wants to share the cost of a rental car with me, let me know. I’ve got a reservation for an economy car for pickup at 6pm. Anyone else flying in around that time? Thanks.
I forgot to mention that I play drums, guitar, bass, ukulele (a little), and stick (though, I’m still learning). Should I bring my drums or will there be a backline?
I’ll have drums there, my main kit, a few smaller kits, some perc. But Tony just took fotos and now we know the place is plenty buig enough if you wanted to bring your own kit. check the fotos here: http://patmastelotto.com/3pp-camp-tony-levins-photo-tou/
I got a room because I wasn’t sure about leaving my instruments in a car in this heat. I just worry about hauling drums up there and then having to leave them in the heat because it won’t fit in a room. haha, it’s not like it’s an expensive set, but it’s my only acoustic set (and my first set).
My wife & I are also flying in from Colorado… though perhaps not the same day. We’ll be flying in to Albany… we’ve both got family in the area, so will probably get taxi service from them. Might be able to give you a lift.
Guys…sorry for the delay….i think i’ll have the reservation for the camp this week…(i had to wait the decision of a friend of mine…and i’ll come alone!!!).
So, if you’re still interested to share a car, send me an e-mail at geomscortichini@gmail.com and we’ll see the best way to do!!
Hey guys I’m Steve and I’m a professional driver going to the camp and I live 10 miles from Stewart Int airport in Newburgh and I know the NYC Airports as well, If I can help anyone in anyway just ask
Maybe the trio should start with a fanboy session (autographs & pictures) for 1 hour then it’s done and behind them. Things will go smoothly after that.
Isn’t funny those guys work with Fripp living in the opposite side of stardom?
I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to attend… I’ll get something from Ristorante Il Theatro just for Tony if I can make it…
I soooo want to go but, frankly, I’m a little apprehensive. I’m an OK drummer but I’m not great … what if I embarrass myself? Will I get to jam with any/all of the Crim boyzzzz? Should I bring my electric and/or acoustic kit? Dan
Dan,
“I’m a little apprehensive. I’m an OK drummer but I’m not great … what if I embarrass myself? ”
i know that feeling well, seriously i feel the same about my abilities and have to remind myself of this quote that i saw on my way to a fearful audition: “Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid.” Goeth.
Lets have fun learning,
p@
I’m another Stick player planning to come. It’d be great if Emmett would send along an NS so I don’t have to travel with mine!! A half-fretless NS would be very cool!
Well, I’m not registered, but I’ll be there! (and Stick Enterprises has said they’ll send a few new Sticks by to try) Actually, I’m interested in how many Stickists will attend, and what we may get into if there are many.
This is going to be one incredible week! Inquiries and registrants keep coming in… If you have any questions on how to reserve your spot, let me know! amy@fullmoonresort.com
Wish I could make this, but have overlapping commitments.
But I just wanted to add a note about Full Moon: it’s gorgeous. I’ve been there a bunch of times and it’s such a friendly place to be, great location, and just the right balance of rustic and mod-cons.
There’s a great bass luthier in or near Woodstock too. That nearly cost me a lot of money!
I´v beer a king crimson fan and all the members, Adrian, Tony, Pat, Bill, so, wolud be great to shere with they!!! I´m a drummer and, like a lot of drummers in the earth, we listen carefully and enjoy so much the music thet this guys create. I´m Mexican, Ilive in ´Mexico City,
I think the website mentioned something about jam sessions in the evenings as part of the daily schedule. It was not clear whether those involve only the three Crims, camp participants, or combinations of both…
So, I’m a keyboard player living in Austin, who used to live in that area 18 years ago. So I’m anxious to try and go. (Maybe Pat can give me a ride? LOL).
Seriously, flying any of my gear will be expensive. Will there possibly be extra instruments and amps? Or some place where I could rent?
Hey Chris,
I’m in Houston and thought the same you did: we should get a long caravan headed by P@ and all trail there!! Long drive but probably much more enjoyable than airports and having to figure out how they will handle my bass and the big case and all… Anyway just throwing this out there
Thanks for nice info. It’s helpful for me. Can you give me some more info with particulars? I will wait on your next post.

Thanks!
Tabs from Adrian’s Frame by Frame workshop?
Could someone transcribe the exacts tabs from Adrian’s workshop here? That would be very nice.

Dear Mimico Bill, I forgot to say thank you for your Frame by Frame tabs. How rude.
Thanks brother-in-camp !
Patrick
Hi,
I heard about the earthquake. How is everybody???? Please let us know!
We’re fine. Some of us didn’t even feel it. Full Moon is still here. All are safe as can be.
A big THANKS to you Darren. My son is there and I haven’t talked with him…THANKS AGAIN.
Awesome!!! Thanks again and say “hello” to Tony Levin for me =)
I envy you all — especially my son Levon (yes, named after Levon Helm who lives up near there).
Can’t wait!
Anybody know what the schedule is? I called the office a couple times and never heard back. Looking forward to it.
Does anyone know a repair shop in ny who can safely mount a gk3 on a Stick ?
Does anyone know a repair shop in ny who can safely mount a gk3 on the Stick ?
Schedule for the camp itself?
Amy wrote me that we should not get at the camp before Monday 3PM. Her words: “You may arrive at camp at 3pm on Monday. Full Moon is booked with an exclusive event before camp begins”
And at which time it ends on Friday? (even if I will want it to last forever…)
Thanks for the information.
Patrick
Count down to Monday – we’ll be there soon — Adrian’s already hit the road to Camp!
Like Pat, I’ve got equipment arriving daily (4 shipments expected today — including espresso!) and we’re fine tuning arrangements for Camp activites.
Safe travels to you all — contact Amy at the camp about any travel questions. See you soon, t.
Safe travels to you, Adrian and Pat as well. Thank you for all the effort you are putting in to make this happen for all of us. See you Monday morning!
Safe travel to YOU ALL (and to me, too), i’ll leave italy tomorrow and i’ll be @ FMR monday for lunch
Love you guys!

Hell yes! I use Roland V-Drum pads and they are not right for my purposes. Really interested in road testing the Mandala!
Looking forward to a kickass camp.
I’m going to stop worrying about flying with my bass long enough to post a crazy idea I just had. Arts and crafts for the bassists: funk finger construction 101. That’s just a joke (I think). Getting excited….
Hey Nicole, get a good flight case… like an SKB ATA case and your bass will be fine. You can even check it and not worry (too much
This is the one…
http://www.skbcases.com/music/products/proddetail.php?f=&id=655&o=&offset=1&c=84&s=75
Funny, I’ve just been experimenting with my funk fingers for a track on a recording. Not reconstructing them, but finding different soft material for the hitting ends… more thump, less bang. Some success (tennis raquet handle grip tape!) but still room for improvement. Sorry I don’t have a lot of pairs to show-and-tell at camp. t.l.
More thump sounds like an excellent idea!
Oops, sorry, I didn’t mean to sound so imposing with my note above. Just trying to help with that ‘traveling with instrument’ anxiety, which I have too! Hopefully we all get to Full Moon with all instruments and players safely intact.
No worries, you didn’t seem imposing, just helpful. I will probably go that route, with some good insurance.
If campers contribute video, we should assume that they will be provided the video at no charge — correct?
Peace, Love, and Music!
Jack Casadone
ATTENTION CAMPERS:
My crew and I will be on-site most of the week video taping and creating a mini-documentary of camp events. The finished product will depend on what we capture. I encourage any campers with video equipment (a flip-cam will do) to video tape their own experiences. I especially encourage those traveling long distances to begin by taping their travel experiences. The video will be made available to campers for a small fee (TBD). If anyone has any comments or suggestions please feel free to contact me at infinitecapture@gmail.com.
Peace, Love, and Music,
Jack Casadone
Okay, I read my post and realized I left something out. For those who will be video taping their own experiences, I will be available all week at camp to download your footage, and hopefully include it in the final product.
J
i’m going to be bringing a HD videocamera with me to record all the sessions that i can. i’m sure there are going to be lots of other sessions going on at the same time that i won’t be able to get to. i could set up a FTP site so that we could all upload our Gigabyteage of video, photos, audio, etc. anyone else interested in sharing?
I’ll have my 5D2 with me. I’ld love to share anything I record. Some extra tripods would be nice cause I couldn’t bring mine from Istanbul
I’ll have my SONY H90E with me and i’ll be happy to donate my video for the final making!
Please keep EVERYTHING YOU CAN about this camp…make a 5 dvd documentary….
Invitation to campers and the Trio to complete a public (no login required) spreadsheet with some info about motivations, country and instrument of choice.
It’s all just for fun and with 68 campers, knowing some stuff in advance about each others could help “break the ice”.

Tres bonne idee! C’est rempli! A bientot!
I’ve added an “email” column for those willing to to be contacted if needed.
I suggest you replace the “@” and “.” sign as the page is not protected against email harvesters robots…
We’re only 3 so far on 68 that filled the small spreadsheet. Come on campers!
Patrick
Done. Anyone else taking Amtrak? I don’t drive, and need to choose a station. Town cars from Albany run $200; I’d love to split that. Anyone renting a car in Albany could coax me to cover most of the cost. If no better option, a bus from Albany runs ~$90 if bought early enough.
This is going to be ever so rad.
I’ve got a rental Monday Morning at 9:30am from the albany airport if you still would like to split costs.
We now have 15 campers that gave some info about them here:

Join the pre-camp with us !
Less than a week before departure…
We have exactly 20 campers out of 68 that wrote a bit about them…
That’s my last attempt trying to get more info about you. Yes, YOU!
And the Trio is welcome to write there too.

Me and my friend Jonas are flying all the way from Finland to experience the camp. Really looking forward to it.
see you soon!
Safe travels, Victor. We’ll be looking for you.
Hey Bernard, lets meet at the baggage claim for Kurt’s flights so that way it’s one location!
Kurt could you advise the price of your rental and how you want to be paid… I’m assuming cash which means I’ll need to get it before leaving!
Finally maybe it would be a good idea to get each others cell phone numbers….
Cedric and Kurt, you can reach me at three-ten (that’s Los Angeles) four oh six followed by sixty-four and forty-four.
Smart!! Didn’t think of that
Mine is: Two hundred eighty one (houston) then six one oh, fifty seven hundred forty three
Greetings, I will forward a copy of the rental car reservation estimate if you guys send me your email address. My email is kurtbartelmehs@gmail.com.
That’s some of it! t.l.
Thanks Tony! All of this sounds amazing… I guess I’ll have to clone myself as I feel I want to attend all of those things!
Can’t believe it’s in not even 3 weeks!
Furbo! t.
Anybody driving from out West?
By the way, more cool stuff has been planned for the Camp – I have to do an update here… maybe later. t.
Thank you sir! That AND the t-shirt will be worth the price of admission…
Hi –
This sounds fabulous, just learning of it now. Any chance I could come for just one day as I have a family vacation at the same time in NY/NJ???
Hi Tony, It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you at Dweezilla. I’m really looking forward to Three of a Perfect Pair. See you in a few weeks!
We’ll have at least one small session about that, and more as anybody wants. t.l.
Tony,
that sounds like a great idea to me! I think anything will be of value. I’m going to be a sponge during that week!
Got a question for the bassists who are coming. I could lug my studio gear in, and have some classes on recording bass (something I do a lot!) Frankly it’s not worth the fuss unless a number of attendees are interested in that aspect, as opposed to others we could cover with just basses. Leave a ‘reply’ with your thoughts. t.l.
I’d be interested in that, though it’s understandable if you don’t want to lug more equipment down…
As for me I am always interested in how other bassists like to record or be recorded.
Thanks!
Cedric, it’s fine to bring or ship in cd’s to give to the campers. There are currently 68. Ship it to Amy Carpenter at the camp address (which I’m hoping is on their website, linked above.) t.l.
Thanks so much for the count! I’ll figure out how to get the CDs there.
Now I’m going to go bite my nails and hope they arrive on time!
Count me in.
Got through to the resort and everything is ok – yay so looking forward to it!
C.
Erhan
can i be picked up in Beacon?
Bringing, 2 small bags and guitar case
And, re your coffee, I think I’d better stick with my espresso! t.l.
Oops, I meant a small guitar AMP!
Hey Tony
yeah I’ll see what the bass sounds like thru the Chorus 212 as far as small amp I do have my nasty little Marshal Micro Belt Clip Beast.
Hi Kurt.
Monday, August 22, 2011
Continental Airlines # 1696
Austin-Bergstrom Int’l (AUS) to Newark Liberty Int’l (EWR)
Departure (AUS): August 22, 7:30 AM CDT (morning)
Arrival (EWR): August 22, 12:16 PM EDT (afternoon)
Great!
My flight is: Mon, 22AUG11
CO89 HOUSTON (IAH) 6:00AM NEWARK EWR (EWR) 10:20AM.
I’ll meet you at the baggage claim. That’s the easiest.
I’m returning on Friday from Newark as well @ 7pm…
Excellent! My flight back to Austin leaves at 8 p.m. Friday.
Hei men…..is the car full???
I’ll arrive in NY august 20th and then i’m looking for a way to go to FMR….i’ll sleep near Central Park (57 west 84 street)….can i be one of yours???
Arriving by bus seems so hard…..
Let me know, plz!!
No the SUV is not full but will be if you still need a ride?
Need a ride from/to Newark Liberty Int’l Airport?
To Full Moon Resort: Aug 22 – 1:00 pm
Back to Newark International: Aug 26 – 1:00 pm
I’d suggest you contact Amy at the camp about rides. I think a friend of mine has been hired for a pickup and drop off at Albany, maybe he’s got room.
P.s. Just realized it’s you, Kurt. Glad you’re coming! t.
Hi Kurt.
See you soon!
…and I’ll be flying into albany at 9am monday, leaving 5pm Friday; anyone with a similar sched that would be interested in splitting a rental?
What do you guys think?
That’s a great idea! And I would assume that those conversations will probably come by themselves… around the camp fire
There’ll be plenty of talk, Luis, about that aspect and any aspects of rock that people want to know about. Among the 3 of us we have about a million years experience making music (well…) in a lot of genres, and are all happy to share, teach and learn. t.l.
Hamp*
Peace,
T.
Tadd, some of that went over my head(!) but, I am from Boston, in fact. As for prices of the amps, I don’t know… but it’s looking like dragging them out of storage wouldn’t be worth it.
Hey Tony
I guess that’s the problem with posting after a cocktail….oh well about the bass amps…it is going to be amazing just hanging out with everyone…
Peace,
T
Tony, if you’re looking to sell stuff I’ll buy an old patch cord. It would be a hoot to say to my band “here’s an actual patch cord used by the actual Tony Levin! Just listen to the amazing riffs I can play now. And the tone: superb …”.
At the risk of turning this into a Crimson rummage sale, I think it would be safe to say that many of us would greet the opportunity to relieve you, Adrian and Pat of used parts, cables, straps, pics, funky fingers, etc. with giddy enthusiasm. I’ll bring my piggy bank.
I agree but this is not always true… another question: what would everyone do if I had 5 billion usd?
My son is
(part 2) i will be setting up new drums in the main performance room, as my basic hybrid kit ( Roland Handsonic & spds, Korg wave drum, my Mac laptop with Motu interface and a few pads) and a nice set of Paiste cymbals ( a mix of signature and twenties series). . this kit will stay in the main room for our open rehearsal sesssion tuesday and weds and also some after dinner jams.
Adios,
p@
Bernard,
no i wont be bring the Notron – its just to fragile and un-replaceable. . i’d be happy to talk about it and how it worked ( when it worked:-)
yes i can help lots with the handsonic so do bring yours- – i love em!
p@
Pat: I definitely want to try handsonic and v drums as I’m planing to buy some. That would be great! Thanks.

I meant “beast” rather than “beats”… but I guess that turned out good eheh!!
Hello Campers!
As we get closer things are falling into place.

Adios,

From Pat:
Hello Campers!
As we get closer things are falling into place.
Some photos here , in case you want to see the layout.
http://patmastelotto.com/3pp-camp-tony-levins-photo-tou/
I have the basic plan for gear, at least in drum world. I will have my main kit in the main performance space- if all goes according to plan this should be a brand new DW kit ! – arriving a few days before the camp- it will feature a 22″ x 15″ kick (thats right my kick goes to fifteen, why? . . .why not?), and features DW new SSC shell configurations shells with VLT and VLX grain combinations (if you don’t know about this Vgrain stuff is ( heck i didn’t a few weeks ago) check this video and see the some of the crazy stuff their doing with wood that you can check out over on DW site:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJ6AvR6E8-s
I’ll fly in on the weekend and spend a day preparing at Tonys, because even we cant get access to the camp site till monday.
So monday i’ll be getting right into unpacking and setting up these new DW’s and assorted rental gear. . the first campers to arrive can join in for the first lesson ‘how to unpack and build a drum kit’, or next door in Tonys cafe how to assemble an espresso machine’, sound check and all that . . We’ll be assisted by a fine little road team we have assembled to bring up to the camp – Adrian Benevides at my beck and call, long time Crimson and Zappa road dog John Sinks is on board to take care of Belew, and from nearby Woodstock, production manager and FOH mixer for the stars Robert Frazza will be on Tony’s team. . of course we really all are on the same team when it comes to shlepping (right?) and they are all sure to overlap since they are all fine audio engineers, mixers, techs, etc. between them they may have almost as many road stories as Tony.
i will be setting up new drums in the main performance room, as my basic hybrid kit ( Roland Handsonic & spds, Korg wave drum, my Mac laptop with Motu interface and a few pads) and a nice set of Paiste cymbals ( a mix of signature and twenties series). . this kit will stay in the main room for our open rehearsal sesssion tuesday and weds and also some after dinner jams.
Also saw campers wrote about desire to do some BaBooom- sure ! why not.

Hi everyone. Just so I’m clear, I’m hearing that I should bring my guitar, amp and effects, right? Also, will there be vocal mics and preamps there?
I am so looking forward to this opportunity to meet you all.
We’d be there automatically if you could do us a show here. plz plz plz
A dream since the Savoy. Enjoy
Yikes, that sounds painful, if I did that I think it would scar me for life… I’d rather spend the three minutes playing With our hosts.
Cool- In the lyrics of Jon Anderson “How old will I be before I come of age…”. Well, I don’t know but I hope it’s soon enough.
P@ and Tony, what do you put the chances at of Crimson recording a new album? Just curious.
Afraid that’s not on the radar at this time, Tim. Wish it was!
I’ve been calling the Resort for the last couple days to make my final payment, but everytime I call it sends me to voicemail. Is there any other way to pay? (I already tried e-mailing Amy Carpenter) Thanks.
Hi Cris!
The resort has been having computer problem but they did call me back on Thursday. I had called Amy in the meantime and she took the payment over the phone.
Is there a different number to call Amy? I only have the hotel’s number (845)254-5117
Hi Cris: You can e-mail the front desk at Full Moon at info@fullmoonresort.com and they will take your payment. Hope it helps. Cheers.
Vale laucha ya les mande un e-mail. Nos vemos el 22!
The more musician posts I read, the greater the suprise that music gets made at all.
Nadie viaja desde Argentina?
Trataré de escribirte en la semana, saludos.
Hello everyone! I’m planing to go to one of this Return to Forever/Zappa plays Zappa concerts before the camp:
Aug 19, Detroit,MI;
Aug 20, Hammond, IN;
Aug 21, Indianapolis,IN.
Good point. t.l.
Indeed! I wouldn’t expect any master classes on the subject. It would give a nice touch to some jams though.
Any room for a theremin player?
ALWAYS room for a theramin player, Al. t.l.
Another nearby Airport is Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Hey Cedric,
Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, but I decided to fly.
John
Hi John!
All well behaved campers will attend the Bearsville gig on Thursday
We’ve got a couple of school buses to transport and each camper will be on the guest list.
Audio and video are permitted as long as you sign an agreement that the recordings are for personal use only and will not be sold, marketed, or used commercially in any way. I will have the form available at check in. Also, something to think about is sharing any recordings with the guys so they can have them as well.
Thanks so much!
It’d be a relief not to be the only mildly-sane person to attempt that =)
Cheers from Brazil!
Suggestion: Chapman Stick Introduction session
I’d also be interested in a beginners Stick session!
I’ll ask my wife, who’s more connected with these things than me, where you might try to stay. (there are a few b&b’s locally) t.l.
A pet friendly place for Stanley!
http://www.bedbythestream.com/
Does anyone know about the camping situation? Any restrictions? How about water (shower, etc..)?
I can’t get a hold of Amy.
thx
I’m sure Amy will answer this, Doug, as soon as she’s back. (you may want to send her a direct note – that email link is above.) t.l.
Hi Doug, Sorry for the delay!
Best, Amy
(amy@fullmoonresort.com)
Thanks for the responses. I will call you (Amy) tomorrow to get registered. My son Nathan and I are very excited about this event. This is my college graduation present to him.
thx
Well I think you’re a very cool parent! But that’s because I’m bringing my two sons as a grad present too.
And my wife, Connie.
Great minds…
Guys,
i’ll travel from Italy alone…i’ll be in NYC saturday, august 20…someone want to spend a day walking together around the big apple and then travel to the Full Moon Resort by bus??
NYC is awesome, but with some “friend in crimson” is better!!!!
p.s.: you guys will bring ELECTRIC guitar (in ase, ill choose an Ibanez Steve Vai) or ACUSTIC guitar? i can’t bring both!
B’BOOM! Really! I mean it! B’BOOM!
We can have half of the campers play Pat’s part and the other half contributing to the Frippesque soundscape.
But we need at least one brave soul to play Bruford’s part. Not me. I just don’t have the chops to roll the 7/8 statement.
This would be sort of a drum circle to make Bach proud! (Or Matt Stone and Trey Parker
)
I sometimes try to play some of the Bruford’s part with my iPad – Garage Band. I’m very close but tremolo parts are impossible
I’ll do my best !
Greg,
ya! I think some BaBooming can be arranged if there is enough interest.
p@
How much for one or two?
I’m comming from Québec City.
P@trick
Hi Patrick. You may want to consider Kingston, NY for hotel – it’s about 45 min. from the Full Moon campsite (I know, cause it’s where I live, and where Pat, Adrian and I will be driving in from on the Monday) I think you’ll find better deals on hotel in Albany area, which is an hour N, but do check out the Holiday Inn Kingston first. t.l.
Tony, do you need help to load your truck ? If so, I’ll be sure to stay at Kingston’s Holiday Inn.
Email me in private at Hotmail to gaumondpatrick@
Alway happy to help people that enjoy Québec city.
LOVE Quebec, but I’ll have help loading the amps for sure. Thanks for the offer — maybe bring us down some poutine! (Not!) t.l.
2 days old poutine would be like 2 weeks old sushis…
See you in less than 3 months!
OK. I now know the dealio.
Amy is on vacation this week. Janet from the front desk has confirmed that accommodations are Monday night to Thursday night. Furthermore, extending our stay at the Resort is not an option given all of the other functions they have at that time.
So now I know.
So we used some frequent flyer miles to book accommodations for the Sunday and Friday nights in Oneonta aboot 1.5 hours away.
Problem solved. Well except that now we will have to unload the instruments out of the van 2 more times. Maybe Tony or Pat want to come along and help.
It seems to be the way they tour…
Actually, Greg, I’ll have a ton of stuff to unload myself, as we can only load in on the Monday — but we WILL have some crew there to help. (I’m gonna try to bring every guitar amp and bass amp I have, so there can be enough for people to practice with… some are old Crimson road gear from the 80′s – we’ll then see if they still work!) t.l.
Dear Mr. Adrian or Tony Levin,
What about iPad/iPod amps ? Coming from Turkey and I’ll be bringing 2 iPads, 1 iPod and 1 iPhone and Apple has not invented any amps for us yet !
http://www.vimeo.com/23824691
http://www.vimeo.com/23977662
I would not be surprised if not this year,(maybe next) that other notable artist will be there.
So I take it then, that there will be no Squerd ?
I’m sooo psyched for this! Just got some money that I thought I lost and I couldn’t find any better way to spend it than hanging out with King Crimson! Can’t wait to lay some tasty jams with you guys!!! I’m just bringing my bass, I figured you guys are going to have amps (or should I bring my amp too? Please let me know!)
PS: I’m 19, anyone my age going?
Almost forgot, anyone from Florida going? we could meet up and go together (I’m from Gainesville).
Close, I’ll be turning 21 a couple of days before the camp starts
Both of my sons are coming. They are 18 and 20.
Hey, is anyone going from Denver, so that we could possibly carpool? Sounds like a long trip but may be cool!!!!! Anyone??
Hey Arcadio,
A friend and I are also coming from Denver. .We’re planning on flying, but a road trip is an interesting idea…
Like a knitted scarf, if you will
Great idea, Luis — we’ll make it happen. In fact, I have an idea how to make it really special. t.l.
I, for one, will raise my hand for bringing a protools setup. It would be awesome to have some nice clean audio to bring home as a momento.
Gonna be very cool – I’m getting excited already! t.l.
Count me in! I think there are at least another 7 or so from the looks of it. I’ll have my battery-powered Crate Taxi50DB. Can’t wait!!!
I should mention that I am all in, now. I’m anxious to return to the MHV, it will be the first time I’ve set foot in Woodstock in 16 years!
I see on the other page on this site, that there will be some practice Amps, and even some extra Sticks. Cool!
Look forward to meeting everyone and having one hell of a week!
PS. After seeing Chrysta Bell with Tu last Thursday, I’m going to learn “Starless”
I’m just looking over my (many) amps, thinking which to bring, to set up as practice (and jam) amps. I think Ampeg will be sending some by also. And, yes, there’ll be some extra Sticks, and basses. t.l.
I’m going from Argentina with a Fernet Branca, who do you think?
Hugo, when you arrive all the way from Argentina, you must allow me to provide you with the Fernet Branca! t.l.
Aahhh Hugo… you spoiled my surprise, he he, nevermind. I’d exchange my share of Fernet for some expresso if you don’t mind Tony.
Laucha
Let’s get you going on the Stick, though! t.l.
Greetings –
As the daughter of two musicians, I am self-taught and do not read music, though I have been told I have an excellent ear and sense of rhythm. Since I am primarily a vocalist and songwriter, will there be an opportunity to address these areas, as well as instrumental playing? Does my inability to read music pose much of an issue?
Looking forward to seeing you guys in camp,
Cori
That’d be a good way to see if my signature on the bass is genuine… but which would be the real one? Anyway, of course I’ll sign things. t.l.
Dajeeeee!!!
ge
Wow, that sounds awesome.
What about doing a camp in Europe?
We need it!
Is wifi available? or just leave the laptop at home?
There is wi-fi throughout the facility. It works better in some places than other but it’s always available in the lobby which is open 24/7. There is a guest computer as well. Hope this helps!
What age do you have to be to register for this camp?
Camp is open to people of all ages (and skill levels). So far there is a nice variation in age. Let me know if you have any questions! Amy@fullmoonresort.com
Vengan a Argentina por favor!!!!!
As you said, I’ll have some Sticks handy for you to practice on (may find the different tuning interesting!) I’ll have some of my basses too… I’m not fussy about them being practiced on either, but my action is way high – might not be everyone’s taste. t.l.
Will do! Thanks for replying! And just read Adrian’s post… can’t wait!
Enjoy Europe. I’ll be in Paris in May so you’ll be back home already!
I just discovered this – I’m late, but better late than never! – and I’d love to come, although I would need to come all the way from Germany.
I’m curious – are there any other fans from oversea participating and / or thinking about going there?
Greetings!
Is anyone else having trouble hearing back from Amy? I have emailed and called her numerous times over the last 2 weeks with no response.
I found her to be very responsive, sorry to hear of the troubles…
Same here. She was a dream to deal with. SO FAR. Dun dun duhhhhhh.
Spoke to her on Friday on the phone. Great and answered all my questions!
Hey Adrian, Please look us up when you are in the area. I am sure Willie would love to see you. Did you know we are now living in Saugerties? Willie has been getting back into music, yeah!
Hope you are well, Ilene
Jestem Polakiem ale jestem w Kanadzie. Do mozliwego zobaczenia!
Hi All — thinking about going. Anyone want to carpool from (or meet up at) the Pittsburgh area? I am happy to drive, but it’s a long one alone.
Also, if tony’d give a barbershop-vocal lesson it’d be the best! Perhaps some light on the funk-fingers method as well
I was thinking about funky fingers as well, that would be a nice.treat.
I have funk fingers! I’ll bring them too! I’ll let the expert use them though… when I use them people loose eyes and stuff…
I would absolutely love to sing some barbershop! I am tenorish, can fake a wee bit of bass or alto…awesome!
Peace,
Tadd
I’m bringing the whole family. Both boys play keyboards and I’m bringing my 10 string Warr guitar that Mark is shipping to me in 3 days.
My wife is coming too, but she would prefer to walk in the woods during the day and hang with us at night.
Here is a video of my sons and I (and our drummer Ray Dillard <- WOW!) playing KTU's absinthe:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlnFaf7YgmU
I’d love to check one out…
I wasn’t sure what kind of month August would be this year. Now I know…Totally Incredible!!!
Almost certain I’ll be the only rapper there lol. Although Tony’s been known to throw down a little hip-hop, if I’m not mistaken.
Although I don’t play guitar, I’m going to bring one and see if I can get a lesson from Adrian. Then I can always say my first teacher on guitar was Adrian Belew.
I’m picking coin by coin for be there with you. I think I am a great musician, but with you by my side … I can be your cook?
I’m sorry!
Can I be your chef?
(My English is like Tony’s Spanish)
Any news about how many people can sign-up? or a deadline?
Any other Massachusetts residents going? I would love to carpool…
Peace,
Tadd
I’ll bring my karaoka machine, if anyone is interested. That is, if I am able to come. We can sing along to King Crimson, The Doors, and anything else on my iPod or anyone else’s.
wish we could go to the shows as we did in california and chicago in the mid 80′s. I’d like my son to know. and no.I didn’t say that before, except to God and myself.
wish we could go to the shows as we did in california and chicago in the mid 80′s. I’d like my son to know.
Man…what an awesome weekend that will be!..I’d have so many questions. Definitley 3 of the most knowledgable and coolest guys in the business.
August in the Catskills with 3 world class musicians and cabins of comarades – sounds surreal. I would love to bring my Stick and Bass. Got to check my calendar. Tony – Gap says “Hi.”
…and another Stickist. I’ll bring a Stick Guitar in mirrored fourths.
Who did the cartoon?
Cartoons are from our good buddy Denis Rodier. check him out here http://www.rodierstudio.com/
Denis has helped me with several projects like MasticA and BPM&M and also done projects for Ade and Tony . . . and he is a rockin E’Drummer and chances are he will be at the camp.
Just leaving to join Tony in South America, once i get down there Tony will teach me how to post ‘updates from the band’. ciao,p@
From Tony: Finally starting to get some stuff up on the “Updates from the band” section way up at top right of page. More soon. t.l.
Tadd
I am a stickist, and I’m trying to make it to the camp. I have to wait and see if I’m free.
Have fun everyone!!!!!
Brett
I’m so happy!!! I can’t wait to be there. I’m confident that it will be an enlightening experience for all of us.
I play some drums and I’m eager to jam, learn and have a great time.
Btw, does anybody want me to bring something special from Argentina? Let me know.
See you there.
Laucha.
Hi, this sounds like an incredible opportunity. Is there any limited number of spots? Hope I can make it.
Thanks.
Correction, Sun Aug 21…
I’m anticipating broken strings… Is there a music shop nearby, or should I come all stocked up?
I would come fully stocked! The closest music shop is in Woodstock which is about 35 minutes from camp.
This is gonna be fun! I can’t wait!
I forgot to mention that I play drums, guitar, bass, ukulele (a little), and stick (though, I’m still learning). Should I bring my drums or will there be a backline?
Stanley,
I’ll have drums there, my main kit, a few smaller kits, some perc.
I think i’ll be one of you…travelling from Italy for Adrian/Tony/Pat.
This is a really “dream comes true” and i can’t miss it!!!
Anyone wants to divide a car to travel from NY to the camp (and vice-versa)???
Hey Claudio,
I’d be interested in sharing a car. I’m flying in from Colorado. Do you know if you’ll be coming in to JFK or Newark or somewhere else?
My wife & I are also flying in from Colorado… though perhaps not the same day. We’ll be flying in to Albany… we’ve both got family in the area, so will probably get taxi service from them. Might be able to give you a lift.
Cool. Let’s keep in touch…
Can’t wait for the camp!!
Claudio S.
I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to attend… I’ll get something from Ristorante Il Theatro just for Tony if I can make it…
camps usually start with an introductory cocktail party for just that!
-dh
Since (I think) the camp starts in the morning, maybe it should be an introductory espresso party…
I will have my espresso machine handy for sure! t.l.
Tony, do you still have the Cafe Crim or is it long gone?
Ian,
We’re camping too.
we will be there 24/7 . . eating/sleeping/making music.
p@
hahah! nice one Mr. Pat!
SEDD keepin’ it PG-13
I can’t stop thinking about this camping trip of a life time ever since I found out about it.
Well I’m certainly interested! But I’m a multi-instrumentalist. Will there be plenty of opportunity to work with all three of you?
COUNT ME IN!
I soooo want to go but, frankly, I’m a little apprehensive. I’m an OK drummer but I’m not great … what if I embarrass myself? Will I get to jam with any/all of the Crim boyzzzz? Should I bring my electric and/or acoustic kit? Dan
No embarassing situations for any of us! May be some jamming, but only with who wants, and with lot of players, not much time in each combo. t.l.
I am admittedly over equipped and yet I am…… Guitarded …..
Dan,
“I’m a little apprehensive.
Lets have fun learning,
p@
Great quote! I did some research on it — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_King
Ah! Ok, I thought it was Darth Vader…
A paraphrase of “Fortune favours the bold!” That’s how I met my wife…
Dan,
we now know the place is huge! there is plenty of space to bring any drum kit you like. check my website for photos Tony took of our drum barn.
http://patmastelotto.com/3pp-camp-tony-levins-photo-tou/
This is a great idea. Can’t afford to go this time. Btw, if you make a t-shirt with the cartoon I’ll buy it.
In fact there will be one, and it’ll be great! t.l.
I’m another Stick player planning to come. It’d be great if Emmett would send along an NS so I don’t have to travel with mine!! A half-fretless NS would be very cool!
That would be awesome, since I play stick, and bass already. It would be nice to try that since its in the middle.
Well at least one stick player will be there…me! I’m bringing my bass too.
Cool. Sounds like at least three of us already. I’m bringing my Graphite Grand Stick.
My two Sticks are both the same – not much variety to explore there. I’ll ask Emmett if the ones he sends can have some different features. t.l.
Personally, I think an ns would be great, so the bassists have some middle ground before they get the real deal.
Well, I’m not registered, but I’ll be there! (and Stick Enterprises has said they’ll send a few new Sticks by to try) Actually, I’m interested in how many Stickists will attend, and what we may get into if there are many.
I’m a bass player, but have always wanted to try Stick. I’d be interested in a beginner Stick session if you and any other players are…
Count me in!!! And I know of a couple more.
Are there any Stick players registered yet? Just curious…
This is going to be one incredible week! Inquiries and registrants keep coming in… If you have any questions on how to reserve your spot, let me know! amy@fullmoonresort.com
Can’t wait!
Any Golf Courses nearby?
This is great
Sorry for not being able to go. Happy for those who go to music camp with these three great teachers … to envy
Amazing Idea!!!
I wish I could go!
The Atlantic Ocean has not to be an obstacle!
Best wishes from Spain!
I´v beer a king crimson fan and all the members, Adrian, Tony, Pat, Bill, so, wolud be great to shere with they!!! I´m a drummer and, like a lot of drummers in the earth, we listen carefully and enjoy so much the music thet this guys create. I´m Mexican, Ilive in ´Mexico City,
wondering if there will be a concert….
I think the website mentioned something about jam sessions in the evenings as part of the daily schedule. It was not clear whether those involve only the three Crims, camp participants, or combinations of both…
Steve,
the answer is both/all of the above . . we’re working on a jam plan to include every one.
p@
May I dream of 60 people playing “Discipline” together ?
I’m certainly hoping to learn to play Dicipline material correctly!
This is an incredible opportunity,I hope I can make it happen!
Yes, this sounds great…hang out with the masters…sing cum bi ya around the campfire.
Perhaps Tony could improvise a stick version of it.
Very excited about this camp!
Me too. A very interesting idea. Dragon, what instrument do you play?
So, I’m a keyboard player living in Austin, who used to live in that area 18 years ago. So I’m anxious to try and go. (Maybe Pat can give me a ride? LOL).
Seriously, flying any of my gear will be expensive. Will there possibly be extra instruments and amps? Or some place where I could rent?
Hey Chris,
I’m in Houston and thought the same you did: we should get a long caravan headed by P@ and all trail there!! Long drive but probably much more enjoyable than airports and having to figure out how they will handle my bass and the big case and all… Anyway just throwing this out there
Looking forward to hearing you drum, Ric!
amy
how many people are you accepting into the camp?
